I'm Fine
‘I’m Fine’ is a highly collaborative work that began with creating set and props with multimedia artist, Kristen Coburn. The project has evolved into a solo stage work performed by Shannon Nash with original music by Jake Psenicka. We’ve created an abstracted and surreal living room inspired by my grandmother’s 1920’s home. This vibrant, domestic space is simultaneously comforting and alien to the performer. It belies its beauty with an unsettling undertone of dated gender norms, inspired by stories from our homemaking grandmothers. This piece explores the tension between feminism and domesticity; agency versus captivity.

WHO WE ARE
Quentin Burley Dance Group [QBDG] is a Brooklyn based dance company founded in 2013. QBDG has been presented throughout New York City, including Triskelion Arts, SPRING/BREAK Art Show, The Red Bean Studios, and Flux Factory. The company works in a highly collaborative process directed by Quentin Burley. THE WORK
But Enough About Me (2017)
'But Enough About Me' unpacks the paradox of self-exploitation in performance. This collage of video, meticulous movement, and absurd lip-syncing, plunges into dark themes of objectification and toxic masculinity. Inspired by the sci-fi trope of the android to Miley Cyrus's 'Wrecking Ball' music video, the work creates an artificial world where sincerity is constantly questioned. This surreal work lays bare a history of exploitation in performance and identifies a path forward for millennial masculinity. This work was created through support of a Mertz-Gilmore Late Stage Production Stipend through Triskelion Arts.
